The Library and Information Services for Earth System Sciences ...

... is a joint service of the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and the Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability (CEN) at the University of Hamburg.

We are a lending library and our main focus lies on the subjects meteorology, climatology, oceanography, marine ecosystems, geophysics, biogeochemistry, hydrobiology, fishery sciences, geology, environmental sciences. Primarily, we offer our extensive service for students and staff of the institutes involved but guests are always welcome.

Apply for your library card

Please fill out the online form. After receiving a confirmation mail for pickup, you can pick up your card at the State and University Library (Von-Melle-Park 3, 20146 Hamburg) and in some specialized libraries of the university (see card issuing offices). Please bring your student ID card and your identity card as proof of identity.

If you are not a member of the University of Hamburg, please contact the State and University Library of Hamburg.

You can use the library card for electronic borrowing at the SUB Hamburg as well as in other specialized libraries of the University of Hamburg.

At the BIS for Earth System Research this card is currently not valid. But don't worry, a separate registration on site is sufficient to borrow our media. To register at our library, please bring your student card and your identity card with you.
